Jean statement on pipeline announcements

Today, Wildrose Leader Brian Jean released the following statement on the approval of the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion and the denial for the Northern Gateway pipeline:

“Given the approval from the National Energy Board (NEB) on these projects, today’s announcement is long overdue.

“The approval of Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain pipeline expansion and Line 3 is nothing but good news for Alberta. Pipelines in all directions create jobs and improve the long-term prosperity of our province.

“However, we need pipelines built, not just approved, and just this week one of Premier Notley’s senior oil sands advisors Karen Mahon declared ‘this pipeline will never be built’ because of all the protests and lawsuits groups like hers will be engaged in. The Premier needs to instruct her advisors to support this pipeline.

“We don’t believe that today’s announcement should give Ottawa any license to enforce a damaging new carbon tax either.

“We are also extremely disappointed that the Liberal government has rejected the Northern Gateway pipeline. This project alone would have boosted Canada’s GDP by over $300 billion over the next 30 years and it’s a project the Alberta legislature gave its full support to in a Wildrose motion last spring.”
