Tany Yao was elected to the Alberta Legislature on May 05, 2015 in the constituency of Fort McMurray – Wood Buffalo.

Tany is the son of a doctor and a nurse. Fort McMurray has been his home since 1977.  He followed his parent’s footsteps into the world of public service, entering and enjoying a 20-year career in emergency services.  He served for a few years in communities like Ponoka, Lac La Biche and Peace River before having the opportunity to settle back in Fort McMurray in 1997.   For over fourteen years Tany served the community as a Firefighter/Paramedic and then later as an Assistant Deputy Fire Chief before moving on to entrepreneurial ventures.

His has a diverse education including: Paramedic and firefighting, High Angle Rescue, Incident Command, Safety Codes, Certificate in Business Administration, Certificate in Project Management and Residential Construction.  Tany is currently working to complete a Business Analyst certificate.

Tany is committed to making a difference in government and representing his constituents with integrity.  He believes in a fiscally conservative government that invests in its citizens.
