NDP government needs to stop ignoring central Alberta hospitals
This week, Wildrose MLA for Lacombe-Ponoka Ron Orr called on the NDP government to make central Alberta hospitals a priority.
Although it’s been an issue for 10 years, the NDP government took the Red Deer Regional Hospital off the list of project priorities. The Red Deer Regional Hospital has not had a new inpatient bed in 17 years despite Red Deer’s rapid population growth.
“It appears Alberta Health Services would rather provide plans over action. We are beyond planning,” Orr said. “I suggest the minister move beyond another decade of planning and on to new hospital beds.”
Funding for central Alberta hospitals was included in multiple planning documents in years prior, but is absent from this year’s list. Red Deer doctors have stated that people in central Alberta are dying needlessly because they don’t have access to life-saving procedures.
“The minister needs to provide a reason as to why Red Deer Regional Hospital was taken off the project priority list,” Orr said. “Central Albertans are counting on them to act.”
