Panda returns from Parliamentary Seminar and Trade Mission
Today, Prasad Panda, MLA for Calgary-Foothills, returned from Europe where he attended the annual Westminster Seminar and undertook a trade mission to London, Dublin, and Hamburg. The Westminster Seminar is hosted by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, and brings together parliamentarians from across the Commonwealth to London to explore different approaches to parliamentary democracy, practice and procedure in the context of the Westminster System and other Commonwealth parliamentary structures. Mr. Panda attended alongside his Legislative Assembly colleague, the MLA from Lethbridge-East. Mr. Panda’s trade mission focused on growing Alberta’s exports abroad and learning about the local market. He visited with:
- London – Alberta International Office
- Dublin –Trade Commissioners at the Canadian Embassy
- Hamburg – Chamber of Commerce, the Port of Hamburg, and members of the Hamburgische Burgerschaft (German Provincial Parliament)
“I welcome the opportunity to meet with members of the NDP government to share what I learned in an effort to help move Alberta’s exports abroad,” said Mr. Panda. Expenses for the Westminster Seminar were covered by the Legislative Assembly Office. Expenses for the trade mission were covered by the MLA personally. This is not the first trade mission Mr. Panda has conducted at personal expense to advance Alberta’s interests abroad. In December 2016 and January 2017, Mr. Panda visited with captains of industry, parliamentarians, ministers, and trade commissioners in Dublin, Ireland; Tokyo, Japan, New Delhi, Mumbai, and the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
