United Conservatives celebrate Sukkot

United Conservative Interim Leader Nathan Cooper has issued the following statement in recognition of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot:

“I would like to wish all those celebrating in Jewish communities across Alberta and around the world a happy Sukkot, a week-long festival beginning tonight at sunset.

“Sukkot commemorates the 40-year period during which the Children of Israel wandered the desert, living in temporary shelters, or sukkots, along the way.

“Today, the Jewish community celebrates this holiday by building their own sukkot and gathering with family and friends for seven days of prayer and feast.

“Sukkot is a joyous and festive holiday, full of family and community, and an excellent reminder of the rich diversity we have here in Alberta. We are indeed fortunate to live in a place that is home to so many cultures and religious traditions.

“On behalf of my colleagues in the United Conservative caucus, I offer my best wishes to all those celebrating Sukkot this week.

“Chag Sukkot Sameach!”
