United Conservatives recognize India’s Republic Day
United Conservative Party Leader Jason Kenney issued the following statement recognizing the celebration of India’s Republic Day:
“On January 26, 1950, the world’s largest democracy became a fully independent republic. This day, 69 years ago, the Constitution of India was enacted – a defining moment in the development of the Indian nation.
“Republic Day is marked by parades and festivities across the country, paying tribute to India’s great democracy. I was fortunate to visit last year where I had to opportunity to witness the vibrancy of Indian society.
“Here in Alberta, Canadians of Indian decent have played a central role in the shaping of our province and will continue to build a stronger Alberta.
“As leader of the United Conservatives, I send my best greetings to all who are celebrating Republic Day in India and here in Alberta.”
