United Conservatives celebrate Polish Independence Day
United Conservative Leader Jason Kenney has issued the following statement recognizing Polish Independence Day:
“Tomorrow, as we reflect on the sacrifices of those who served – and continue to serve – our country in times of war and peace, Polish Canadians will also observe the 100th anniversary of Poland’s independence.
“This national holiday in Poland commemorates the restoration of independence in 1918 and is a celebration of their long standing commitment to freedom and democracy.
“Although the Polish people would soon have to fight once again for their freedom, their resolve and determination would be unwavering. The Polish people rallied against the evils of Nazism during the occupation of their country during the Second World War. They stood firm in opposing Communist tyranny during the Cold War. And, throughout these difficult times, Canada would provide refuge for many Poles escaping persecution in their home country.
“Here in Alberta, we are proud of the contributions Polish Albertans have made to our province, and our history. In addition to celebrating and remembering Canada’s proud military heroes, I encourage all Albertans to learn more about Polish heritage and history, and the risks and sacrifices borne by our Polish allies in their fight for freedom.”
